Hours: 9:00 – 17:30 (flexible) Monday to Friday

As a Therapist Assist you will work under the direction of qualified therapists and will require a period of induction and training, to achieve required competency to perform all tasks.

What will the role as our Therapy Assistant look like?

  • Assist and work along Therapists in the care and rehabilitation of our patients whether children or adults. The post holder will maintain a high standard of patient care and continue clinical management programmes alongside therapists.
  • Participate in administrative and housekeeping duties to support the efficient and safe operation of the Therapy Department and to support the Therapy Reception team in times of need.
  • Participate in the maintenance programmes of equipment and to ensure stock levels are sufficient.
  • Undertake duties, both clinical and administrative, as required by Therapy staff.
  • The post-holder will work under the direction of qualified therapists and will require a period of induction and training, to achieve required competency to perform all tasks.

You’ll help us make health happen by:

  • Providing a high standard of clinical assistance to all members of the Therapy team
  • Carrying out a range of basic interventions with patients following assessment, participation in Joint sessions and clear instruction from a qualified therapist.
  • Being able to recognise change in the condition of a patient, decide whether to treat or monitor and document the patient response/reaction to any treatment undertaken.
  • Assisting with the care of patients including supervising or assisting with drinking, toileting, dressing and undressing as part of their treatment programme.
  • Monitoring patients’ physical and cognitive function whilst undertaking a range of activities and report changes to the therapist.
  • Assisting with removal and application of functional/supportive aids e.g. prostheses, splints.
  • Collecting patients from the ward to attend their therapy sessions.
  • Taking part in the cleaning and maintaining of therapy gym and equipment including change of linen after each treatment.

Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role:

  • Previous experience working in a healthcare/care service setting.
  • Previous experience of interaction with the public/patients.
  • Experience of working in a team.
  • Previous experience in reception and administrative tasks.
  • Able to manage own time and take responsibility for routine tasks.
  • Ability to prioritise between urgent and routine tasks.
  • Able to use initiative and demonstrate flexibility.
  • Physically able to manage demands of rehabilitation.
