TRISS (Trunk Road Incident Support Service) – Bonnyrigg

We have a rare opportunity to join BEAR Scotland’s Operations team in Bonnyrigg as a TRISS (Trunk Road Incident Support Service) Operative.

The purpose of the Trunk Road Incident Support Service is to patrol designated strategic routes of the network to detect and respond to incidents and to assist in achieving reliable journey times for the travelling public. The TRISS provides quick response to all types of incidents on the network to ease congestion and provide updates via the control room where necessary. This is a rotational position, 4 days on/4 days off working 12-hour shifts.

The South East Trunk Road Unit spans 506km through some of the busiest sections of the country, from central Scotland through the Scottish Borders. It includes routes such as the Edinburgh City Bypass, as well as a large section of the M8 connecting Edinburgh to Glasgow. It includes 870 bridges and structures including the iconic Queensferry Crossing and Forth Road Bridge, as well as other major bridges such as the Kincardine Bridge and Clackmannanshire Bridge. Trunk roads in the South East serve as a vital link for Scotland’s economy, ensuring thousands of daily journeys and deliveries are carried out safely.

TRISS are almost always the first to respond to members of the public, so great communication skills are essential in this role.

Responsibilities include:

  • Carry out patrols on predefined routes
  • Assist Police and members of the public
  • Debris removal and litter picking
  • Traffic monitoring
  • Respond to incidents as required
  • Offer assistance/report breakdowns
  • Patrols and inspections as required

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Confident and considerate attitude
  • Experience & qualifications within road maintenance and traffic management (preferred but not essential)
